Transforming Our Response to Clergy Sexual Abuse: Understanding the Past and Creating the Future
How do we change hearts and culture to further transform the Church’s response to clergy sexual abuse?
We’ll begin with a review of significant events in the Diocese of Kansas City – St. Joseph’s response to clergy sexual abuse and the way that changes in laws and requirements from the Vatican and USCCB have influenced this in recent years. We’ll look at the diocese’s current means of response including the Office of Child and Youth Protection, Independent Review Board, Ombudsman and Victim Assistance Coordinator.
We’ll discuss how to respond in a survivor-centered way in our personal relationships. Then you’ll be invited to help envision how we can affect continued transformation of the response from the institutional Church.
